Our Trainers

BSL Training

All Academy BSL Training is delivered by a culturally Deaf, native BSL teacher who will use their personal experience of the everyday barriers faced by Deaf people to enrich their training and provide you with a first-hand insight to Deaf Culture. All teachers have been through the British Deaf Association’s curriculum training; have many years teaching experience and hold current PVG certification.

Continuing Professional Development Training

CPD Training sessions will be delivered by leading Deaf and Hearing experts in the topic field. This ensures the quality of each session will be relevant to the attendee as well as beneficial to them when they return to their workplace.
While enjoyable, the training will challenge and expand your knowledge base and often provide practical solutions to issues in the topic field.

Work Based & Premises Accessibility Assessments

Our work based assessor has years of prior experience with the British Deaf Association and will visit your work or organization to offer realistic advice on what equipment, support and reasonable adjustments can be made to support your staff, to safeguard that you, as an employer, are working towards fulfilling your obligations under the Equality Act 2010

If your premises are visited by members of the public, an assessment of accessibility will be undertaken and suggested adaptations to premises or equipment, which are often a simple and a low cost solution, can have a profound impact on the quality of the service provision.

Lipreading Tuition

Scottish Central Belt Lipreading tuition is provided by a qualified tutor who has undergone the Scottish Course to Train Tutors of Lipreading (SCTTL), one of only four recognised and accredited courses in the UK and is also a certified teacher of Lipreading accredited by the Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR) awarding body. The tutor holds a current PVG certification and is also a qualified Level 2 Lipspeaker so understands the importance of clear communication.
All other Academy tuition will be provided by a qualified member of the Association of Teachers of Lipreading to Adults.
